Gavin was born and raised in Sydney, attending Adventist schools at both Primary and Secondary levels. He graduated with a BA (Hons.) in History from Macquarie University and an MA Ed. from Loma Linda University. Over forty-one years in education, he worked in schools across Sydney, Auckland, Brisbane, Perth, Adelaide, and Vanuatu. He spent twenty-one years as Principal and served as Director of Seventh-day Adventist Schools in South Australia for six years.
Gavin is married to Christine, a retired nurse, and they have three daughters and seven grandchildren. They enjoy travelling, bird watching, and spending time with their 'grandies.' Both volunteer with Meals on Wheels and enjoy connecting with the community. Brisbane has been their home for over ten years.
As Lead Elder (LDC), Gavin supports the Pastoral Team and nurtures Church members. His motto, People Matter Most, guides his work in facilitating this at Springwood Church.
